 * For this blog, I will address the issue stated in the letter written above. I will help you understand why your website might be ranking low, or even, not at all. Finally, I will address the “What can I do about it?” question.

My business has been around for years. Why am I not ranking in the search engines?

There is a big difference between the length of time having a brick and mortar business, and having that brick and mortar business interpreted through a website online. There is no correlation between the length of time of a business in a tangible location, and the length of time of a business online. Think about it in terms of your brick and mortar, and how long it took you to establish a “memory” in your communities eyes. How long had you been there before you started recognizing faces, or repeat business. This can happen online, just as it has in the physical location…just in a different way. I will try to explain this in more depth below.

I have had a website for a while. Why am I not ranking in the search engines?

With a storefront, there are many different ways to become “more visible.” You can dress up a boring storefront window, you can dress up as some character and stand on the corner – waving a sale sign, while jumping up and down. The list can go on and on. Getting attention online is, in an abstract way, the same – but very different. The people that drive by your store have the luxury of all the senses. Search engines, like Google, only has the ability to scan and read text. This is how Google interprets what they “see.” They scan websites, on a regular basis, in order to discover and index new websites. If your website is just full of images and visuals, as you would decorate your store front, the search engines have no way of interpreting your website, therefore, having no idea how to index the website for ranking.

I spent hundred’s of dollars on my website. Why am I not ranking in the search engines?

The amount of money spent on a website doesn’t necessarily dictate how it will rank. There is a distinct method that must be followed in order to achieve great ranking.

I spent thousand’s of dollars on my website. Why am I not ranking in the search engines?

Again – the amount of money spent on a website doesn’t necessarily dictate how it will rank. There is a distinct method that must be followed in order to achieve great ranking.

What is wrong?? I can’t afford to get another website right now, and I can’t do anything about it!
